Chatter #71 – Peter Geoghegan on Dark Money and the Corruption of British Politics

Peter Geoghegan, author of Democracy For Sale and writer at openDemocracy, was our guest on today’s show. I’ve been trying to get to sit down with Peter and have a chat about dark money in politics for quite a while, so after a short delay in the release of his book due to covid-19 it was a pleasure to finally get to sit down with him and discuss his brand new book. Democracy For Sale explores many of the same areas that I cover in my own book, albeit from a different angle; it covers the influence of dark money and the soft power of think tanks and lobby groups in British politics, as well as the failures of our aging electoral laws and their inadequacy in a rapidly changing world of political campaigning.
